Frequently Asked Questions: Soccer
Are the Hopkinton Youth Sports Association (HYSA) soccer program and the Hopkinton Soccer Club (HSC) affiliated?
No, HYSA and Soccer Club are two separate organizations.
Can my child play for HYSA and Soccer Club?
Yes! Youth athletes in Contoocook and Hopkinton are welcome to play for both HSC and HYSA. Your child can also play on a HYSA team if they make their middle school team, so long as they have registered in advance and there is room on the team. HYSA priority is given to players who do not have another opportunity to play soccer. If your athlete is double rostered, please indicate that in their registrations.
What is the difference between HYSA’s soccer program and HSC?
HYSA’s soccer program is part of a local, recreational league, and HSC is considered a travel team. If you have questions about what environment is most appropriate for your athlete and fits your family’s needs best, don’t hesitate to reach out to the HYSA Soccer Commissioner, Sara P. (persechino.sara@gmail.com).
Why are there two soccer programs in Hopkinton?
When HYSA was first formed it was the “Hopkinton Youth Soccer Association.” As the program grew and encompassed more team sports, a group of board members decided to split off. They created the Hopkinton Soccer Club.
What ages can play soccer for HYSA?
HYSA offers soccer programs for athletes in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
Where can I register my child in 7th or 8th grade for soccer?
The only non-school soccer program available to athletes in 7th and 8th grade is HYSA.
Athletes in 7th and 8th grade (or those born in 2011) are not eligible to register with Soccer Club. Soccer Club does not have programs for 7th or 8th grade boys or girls, and athletes born in 2013 (rising 6th graders) have aged out of club.
How does HYSA create teams?
Unlike HSC, which is currently birth year dependent, HYSA creates teams based on grade level. HYSA does not hold try-outs or evaluations. There is a place for all Contoocook and Hopkinton youth athletes in HYSA!
